Recently one of the sites I completed, started getting these WordPress notifications about a trackback from another website. As I looked in further I started to realize, that it was a spam trackback message. I couldn’t understand why this was happening at random times. I even checked that the Discussion settings were disabled for comments and trackbacks both on the post and globally. The client didn’t want any commenting features on the website however the website was still getting these spammy messages.
Upon further reading, I took the advice of globally disabling the comments, pingbacks and trackbacks in the SQL database. Using phpMyAdmin, I ran the following querry. NOTE: Please do a back up of your SQL database FIRST before executing the script.
So far, that seems to have done the trick for me.
